New Headmaster
It was announced last week that the new headmaster of Subiaco Academy is Mr. Michael Burke. Below is his profile from the website of his current school.
Responsibilities
Michael Burke is the President of the St. Joseph Catholic School System. He oversees all aspects of system operations from The Eagle's Nest through the high school program. Mr. Burke has extensive experience in Catholic education as a teacher, coach and administrator. A native of Lindenhurst, N.Y., Mr. Burke is a product of Catholic education.
Education and Previous Work Experience
M.S. Educational Leadership, University of Dayton (May 2008)
B.A. in Business Administration, Southern Benedictine College, 1979
Additional Studies: Athens State University, Troy University
Academic Dean, Lyman Ward Military Academy, Camp Hill AL
Curriculum Specialist & Men's Soccer Coach, Wallace State College, Hanceville AL
Founder and Principal - Holy Spirit High School, Tuscaloosa AL
Co-founder, Administrator, Teacher, Coach - St. Bernard Preparatory School, Cullman AL
Loan Officer, AmSouth Bank, Cullman AL
Management Trainee, Security Mutual Finance Corporation, Cullman AL
My Educational Philosophy
My educational philosophy has always been to produce well-rounded students who value education, hard work and achievement. The "Renaissance" student who strives for an excellent education, participates in athletics and appreciates the arts is the type of student I hope to inspire and develop. This "Renaissance" approach to education graduates young people who are confident, goal-oriented and successful.
I believe students thrive in an environment that is structured, where they know the boundaries and can concentrate on developing good habits and building their confidence. Individual attention for students on both the academic and personal fronts, will lead to academic success and personal growth.
Hobbies
Gardening, cooking, hiking, travel and Yankees baseball. He and his wife, Jill, have two children: Chris, a graduate of Auburn University, and Erin, a junior at Texas A&M University.

Soccer Can Teach Values, Says Pope
VATICAN CITY, JAN. 9, 2008 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI says he hopes that soccer players and organizations can increasingly become a tools to educate in values.
The Pope made his appeal today at the general audience held in Paul VI Hall. Italian soccer players and representatives of the sport were in attendance.
"May soccer increasingly be an instrument for teaching values of honesty, solidarity and fraternity, especially among the youth," he said.
The group gave the Holy Father a soccer ball and a blue jersey from the Italian national team with "Benedetto XVI" written on it.

Get U.I.O.G.D. Updates
For anyone who is interested you can subscribe to RSS feeds for this blog. RSS feeds automatically update when new information is posted. There are several ways to do this. First, you can click here, and choose a method from the dropdown menu at the top.
However, in my opinion RSS feeds work the best on an iGoogle homepage. I use this for some sites that I check everyday, and it is a very handy way to get a lot of informatio in just a glance. If you don't have an iGoogle page, you can easily set one up by clicking here. Once it is set up, click "Add Stuff >>" then click "Add feed" on the left hand side and put http://jpohlmeiersubi.blogspot.com/ into the box.
If you use Firefox, another good option is to add it to the Bookmarks Toolbar. I don't think that RSS works as well in Internet Explorer.
Sorry if what I just said is just techno mumbo-jumbo. Feel free to ignore it. Thanks for visiting my blog.
